Anthony Cioce

Dr. Anthony Cioce Jr., age 45 –
“The Doctor”

Tony is a physician and owner of the Morristown Medical Group in Morristown, NJ who recently joined the board of the New Jersey Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

As an avid runner, Tony has taken on the Ironman Challenge as his first major fundraising effort to support LLS. Tony has accomplished much in his time running, he was the 2007 New Jersey Marathon Winner and had his personal best time at the California International Marathon with a time of 2:26:45, accomplishing his ultimate goal of breaking 2 hours and 30 minutes. On August 12, 2012 Tony will take on the challenge of his very first Ironman, even though with less than a year until race day, he has never completed, nor attempted any distance triathlon.

Tony takes on this challenge in honor of his personal friend and teammate, John Hyland. “As friends, we always talked about ‘living life to the fullest.’ Finding out that John had Leukemia greatly impacted my life. A guy like John, who is so healthy, regularly competes in Triathlons and Ironman events, does not get a disease like Leukemia, it just goes to show you that no one is safe.  The news completely threw me, I cried like a baby.  As a Physician, you spend most of your life trying to take care of sick people and make them better, in John’s case, there was nothing I could really do.  I felt helpless and wanted to be able to do something.  Now I have an opportunity to help and make a difference to others.”
