John Hyland, age 44 – “The Survivor”
John was raised and still currently resides in Morristown, NJ and is Managing Partner of Morristown Financial Group.
Having served on the board of the New Jersey Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society since 2000, and serving as Board President for 2 of those years, John has contributed greatly to the success of LLS. In financial support alone, John has fundraised and given in excess of $130,000 in those years. Then, in April of 2010, John’s connection to LLS strengthened greatly, when he was diagnosed with AML (acute myelogenous leukemia). His 10 years of involvement and giving would now directly impact his own cancer treatment and chances of surviving.
Before being diagnosed, John was quite the athlete having completed 8 Ironman races. When presented with the opportunity to race again in one of these events while raising money for the charity that helped save his life, John immediately made his commitment. Completing an Ironman is an admirable goal for any healthy adult, but John will be fighting to the finish of his 9th just over a year out of treatment. But his ambition does not stop there; John has been a crucial part of putting this motivated and enthusiastic team together and ensuring that a significant amount of money will be raised because of his efforts.
